haley reached out to me this spring looking to do an anniversary session this year to help her and her husband, ryan celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary and i’m so freaking glad she did!! we decided on the oregon coast in pacific city more specifically because it sentimental to them and their little family. it is a yearly vacation the couple takes so why not lump it into one + document the celebration!
one thing about this location is it’s super nice to be aware of when low and high tides are because it really helps with access to certain areas like the rocky cove above! this was about an hour or two after lowest tide, so the water was on the move in. when we got there, i knew that was what was happening so we decided to start back there so we could safely get back there and back out. it was so cool because towards the end of our time back there, they decided to dip their little toes in for some pics.
this weekend was one of the first weekend of june so weather was in and out as far as sun and such– completely normal for the pacific northwest, but if you’re not from here it might catch you a little off guard. even going up here, inland in portland it was around 90 ish degrees, though through out this whole session the sun kept playing peek a boo with us i swear. it was really nice though because it gave such a soft light over ryan + haley and such a variety to their session. when we went into the dune grass, the cloud came out and it was soooo stunning for some more vibey, coastal fog *chefs kiss*
when planning, one thing haley was really sure of was that she wanted to get in the water it was one of the reasons we waited until it was a little warmer out. i had planned on having them just kind of get in and do whatever their were feeling in the moment, which we did but about half way through that time, i got a little creative hair. i gave them plenty of exit plans and really stressed that if they weren’t comfortable with what i was asking of them, that we didn’t have to– though they were so game and i was sososo glad. when explaining to them what i was thinking– it was quite a process, i could just not get my words to work, i told them to barrel roll like you would down a hill or on fire. they nailed it if i do say so myself.
and to finish this post off, the barrel roll that turned out magical. if you’re wanting to document a milestone in your relationship– don’t wait!! i’m so glad haley + ryan took made time to celebrate and dress up in their wedding attire– i mean come on!
