Hehe hi blog fam– I’m so excited to share this family session from earlier this year at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. This session was a little extra special because I met the Lorenz fam while on their yearly vacation down to the Oregon coast! Farrah reached out to me about joining them down on the coast to document their family on this trip this time.

I originally met the Lorenz family a couple years ago for their first family fall photos. So when Farrah emailed me this time I was so excited to work with them again. When we were talking about what Farrah wanted the photos to look and feel like, it was so important to her to have the kids playing on the beach + just having fun.

We talked about how the beach has such neutral colors so any outfit combo she was thinking was really going to work well. In the end when we hopped on a styling call she was between them being in more blue jeans with neutrals or all over tans + creams and in the end we decided on the tans + neutrals combo so no matter what her style is in the future, the images will still look good when they’re hung up in the living room.

Because this is a trip they do every year, they really wanted to be able to tell it was in Cannon Beach, and what’s more iconic than Haystack Rock? We ended up meeting in a public parking lot along the main street and walking out together. This was such a good idea because it gave the kiddos more time to get used to me around + watch their mom and dad interact and have conversations with me helped them feel more comfortable. Any time I bring clients to the coast, I really like to be mindful of the tide, whether it’s coming or going + when it peaks. I try to keep that in mind when planning a start time for coastal sessions. While around sunset is the best time, you have to make sure there’s enough shore to play around on.
